My 67 CJ5 build

    Took Ole Blue out for a nice ride. Man that hanging gas pedal just keeps me uncomfortable. I have to keep my foot up on the transmission cover. What a pain

    I tried a very simple fix, I got a floor mounted pedal for a m38a1 off of ebay. I just took off my existing pedal, leaving the original linkage and screwed the pedal to the floor. It just rides on the original linkage rod pushing it down. Works like a charm, I can keep my foot flat on the floor now. I really wanted to keep everything factory correct but whats the point if it's not fun ?

    I had the same problem with my original V6 hanging gas pedal, but solved it by adapting a pedal for a Ford (Bronco, truck, or full-size car) to work with the original Jeep bracket. The pedal is much closer to the floor, and far more comfortable to drive now. Here's a post I wrote up on it a few years back:

    I actually read this thread last week and bought a bronco pedal to try, It worked but it was still uncomfortable to me as I still had to keep my foot off the floor a bit and it was very touchy. Maybe I did it wrong. Also broke my original bracket getting the pin back in :(
    The floor mounted one is sooo much better for me. Like driving a modern car.. kinda

    The conversion I did works really well for me, but the level of comfort probably has a lot to do with individual leg length, shoe size, etc.

    Along the same lines that you went - really just for the cool factor - I've actually thought about re-converting to one of these reproduction pedals, which only recently became available. This would however require installing studs in the floorboard, and possibly modifying or replacing the accelerator rod:

    That's how mine is being a 4cyl tub with a v6 swap.

    Jw60, John's conversion didn't click with me until your comment. Thank you sir, I appreciate it. I have both the v6 linkage and the 4cyl one, even though my original jeep was a 4 cyl. I like how the original '57 pedal looks.

    I've been scratching my head for a long time trying to figure out how I'd adapt the 4 cyl linkage to the dauntless, and now I have my answer!

    No problem, I have the v6 linkage drawing over in the resources if you need to make a new firewall bracket and arm.

    Hey John, one question about your pedal setup. Do you have any of the m38a1 linkage attached at the back of the pedal, or did you just cut it off? Mine has a riveted on ball (looks like you have similar in the top/left of the pedal) with the linkage protruding towards the firewall. This is the original '57 configuration.

    I don't necessarily want to cut it off, but don't see an easy way to remove it without destroying it.

    I took a Dremel and cut the welds on the ball socket and removed it. It will leave a hole in the pedal, I just used JB weld to fill it for now. Eventually when I get ambitious I'll fill with a weld.
    The original hanging pedal linkage stays. The new pedal just rides on the rod, it's not attached to it.
    That rod will pop out of the socket with some persuasion
