Sounds to me like you're bored and need a new 2 U ECJ5 and start all over.:bananatool:

We'll... I got some 16" wheels from Daryl in a trade. I like the look of tall skinny tires on Jeeps, but I don't think they look right on mine. It looks too much like a Mail Jeep with the hardtop on. Or maybe I'm just used to my 33's?

Agree. Or maybe they just need some 34x9.50 swampers on them. :sneak:

I most definitely would get new rubber. I'll have to look at some size and tread options.

    235/85/16 is a 32 x9.5 or so.

Wheel color of your choice would certainly be a plus. It does take some adjustment to your eye when you go from a deep wagon style to a stock steel wheel.

Takes a little more adjustment of you go to 24's.

IMHO, it’s not the hard top. It’s the modified front fenders. Putting the 16” wheels on make the jeep look more original and the fenders look out of place. Don’t get me wrong, your jeep looks great with the 33’s but I would save the new wheels for your next project.

I'd like come across some fenders that matched the paint. Unfortunately when I acquired the Jeep, it had mismatched fenders and one was a little mangled.

If the skinnys had an aggressive tread pattern I think it would look good. I think it's the tires that are ruining it for you.

you could add air conditioning. with your remote starter, it'd be nice and cool when you go out to drive it.

    i like the steel wheels.
it will look better if you paint them and put some new knobby tires on them. It does look like a mail jeep at first glance with the top on.

I think the camera angle is looking down on the Jeep, which gives it a different prospective. A tire with a aggressive tread would make a difference. If you have not, look in the thread "Show Us Your Jeep", might get some ideas there. I some times wonder if I should have went with a smaller tire on mine.

You could just leave it like that, then I could say. " I now a guy who had a nice looking Jeep and fixed it up so it looks like a Postal Jeep.

What is under the rear end of the Jeep in both pictures?

    Bowbender I'm workin' on it!

I vote more aggressive skinnys and start sniffing around for some fenders, or remodel your existing fenders.

Some 1 1/2" spacers and 32 9.50 15 swampers would work well. The spacers would clear the brakes and get you out wide enough that the tires would just barely kiss the frame at full turn.

Look at the tires in the logo with the Jeep in the ECJ5 T-Shirt thread.

Today I pulled out the old motor mounts to install the new set from RockAuto.

The driver's side was definitely broken and the passenger side was ready to go at any moment.

Funny thing about the mounts, I ordered a left and a right side. The boxes were marked as per my order, but when I opened up the boxes, the mounts were stamped with a different number. I ordered a 2383 and a 2384. I got a 2385 - 2 and a 2386. I ended up losing track of which was supposed to be left and which was supposed to be right and by matching them up I couldn't tell the difference? I pulled the passenger side first and it looked like one of the new mounts, so I went for it. I finally got the driver's side out and it was way different.

The old driver's side mount had some smaller tabs for the frame mount arm. I think this is due to having a custom Saginaw swap. There was a little bracket a PO put on the frame for the steering support. I could not get the new mount into position without grinding off the tabs and making it look more like the old mount.

I'm all set now thanks to my trusty grinder. (y)
