The Stupid Thing is complete.
Her mom got her a basket for it, and she loved it so much, she wanted to paint the frame turd brown to match it. She loves it, and that’s all that matters.

 

Researched these when I was in Japan and decided to whip one up last Friday... a Cowboy Wok. Still needs more seasoning. Traveling for business over the next month, but looking forward to putting it thru the paces when I get back!

 

My daughter has been asking for a "fairy crown" for a while, so it was a good excuse to make some stuff. This is where we currently are after far too much time spent with a jeweler's saw. Still plenty to do on this thing but I'm in no rush.

 

I almost forgot about this. I've had thoughts about getting rid of it but I dunno. Doubt I could ever find another.

It's nice to have a good commuter car.

 

This week I'm (finally) building a trailer to mount my Hand-Cranked dump body on. We don't need no steeenkin' hydraulics.

Shortened a pair of 6000# mobile-home axles, with electric brakes, and welded up some c-channel from my scrap pile. Should be mighty handy.

BTW - the tires on the wooden trailer are from my old 1950 Willys-Overland truck, at least 40 years old and still earning their keep.

this inspired me, which is probably NOT a good idea. i want to use miscellaneous parts from a few bikes, mowers, and a gokart to make some kind of vehicle. of course, it's got to have a comfortable seat, which will be a rolling chair (minus the wheels) that one of my classmates got from a teacher, then had me try to do something with, which turned out to be sticking it into the ground in front of the school and riding the bus home. i went back to the school later that day for some reason, and they were puzzling over the chair stuck in the grass. i replaced my bike seat with it, and tried to get my bike home in the cold, which went over badly. anyway, that caused my bike to be unoperable, as i couldn't get the seat out and certainly couldn't ride it like that. anyhow, i got a bunch of stuff i want to throw together into something interesting.

anyway, got any updates on the "stupid thing"?

 

I've been enjoying my partner's International so much I got my own. This one has a little cab rot and some scaled floors, plus the original IH floor mat.


1961 International Harvester B-120 3/4 ton 4x4, I6, T98, NP205, three tanks. The bed is off a later truck, it's been widened and it's rotten.

Oh, and a 20,000 pound Tulsa PTO winch

Ever since I retired my car, I’ve been itching to put a trailer hitch on my wife’s car. We ride our dirtbikes a lot, and most of the (good) trails are an hour plus from our house. It doesn’t make much sense to take the thirsty Dakota (that the whole family doesn’t even fit in anymore) when we could tow the little trailer with the car.

This car (Volvo V70 T5) has a tow limit of 3300 pounds, but the only hitches that are available are the dinky class 2 versions, and cost nearly $200.

I had the class 3 hitch from the Rodeo I scrapped a few years ago, so why not make it fit!



I started by cutting some 1/4” plate into 8” x 10” chunks, bending a 2” tab on the ends, drilling some holes, and mounting them in place on the car. This has a very secure tie-in, utilizing six 12mm bolts into threaded ports in the rear subframe.

Once I cut the plates off the rodeo hitch, it was 2 1/2” short, so I cut eight 2 1/2” x 2” tabs, tacked them together to make boxes, and beat them around the tubing with help from the torch.

All welded up, ready to trim the plates to size:

Do you have to wire it into the Volvo's electrical harness running to the rear lights? That sounds difficult.

 

That round to square transition piece is pretty interesting (and impressive). Just gusseting or was the tube too short?
