New Renegade Mystery?

Here's a copy from the '71 parts manual that shows the Renegade decals. It shows not only Renegade I and Renegade II, but also a plain Renegade. The part number for the plain Renegade is lower than the Renegade I, which in turn is lower than the Renegade II. I would assume this means there was a plain Renegade prior to the Renegade I? Anyone have any info on this? I don't have the manual, but someone I bought a NOS Renegade I set from on ebay sent it to me.

I don't know what the first two items in the FPM represents but plain "Renegade" decals didn't appear until '72. By then it was just called a Renegade.

It surprises me that he first Renegades to appear were actually labled with a "1".

It's kinda like a movie and a sequel. You never see "Friday 13th Part 1".

Wouldn't it be presumptuous for a movie maker to assume that a sequel is warranted before the movie is released or audience tested? In the case of the Renegades, pure ****iness.

"E/RENEGADE" - what's that about? Is the thin stripe provided separate from the thick stripe? Either that, or the cowl stripe is separate from the hood stripe? Or maybe the "Renegade I" name wasn't used until the "Renegade II" was in the pipeline, and the earliest (E) were "Renegade"? Maybe this notation is used somewhere else in the parts manual.

Does the decal actually say "Renegade I" or "Renegade II"? If not, then why would Jeep bother to list different part numbers?

Here's a possible explanation. The stickers with the prefix /E are shown in an earlier FPM as simply a speed stripe accessory for use on CJ5s, CJ6s, DJ5s and DJ6s with V6 and F4 engines. My guess is the "/E Renegade" just means except Renegade to distinguish it from the Renegade stickers. Jim?

Never mind Jim. Geez this one was too easy. In the list of Codes and Abbreviations, the FPM states that /E = except. DONE

Just to throw a little wrench (not wench) into the mix Zoomer, I *think* I have seen a yellow(ish) pea green, Baby SG, RII live and in person. I'm trying to get the pics now but the holder of the pics decides to go skiing. Details to follow.

I got my decals from a friend of Mike Boyink's (Frank Sandborn) for $50. He has them for all renegades, I believe. Here's his email fsanborn@cablespeed.com

I believe the first plain Renegade decals were the few Renegades in 69 I think that were dealer only editions before the official Renegade 1. I'm not positive though.
