I rebuilt my carb with a kit from mikes carburetor. I installed a new power valve but the big news was the accelerator pump had a chunk broken off and was brittle in general, most likely from age or ethanol or both.

Overall the jeep runs way better and doesn't hesitate under acceleration like it was. This old renegade has tons of life left in it and the v6 is a nice change from my f head.

I had to fish that little blue piece out of the acc. Pump chamber.

I'm pretty sure the power valve was sticking it looked bent.

I got a HF timing light for a little over 20 bucks and it works great.

Sounds like you use your jeep and like it. The local jeeps could be a good option, those links are Interseting.mI have a subaru for a daily driver.

Yes I like my Jeep, as long as it is dry weather. I go shopping to the village, buy honey, cheese at the farm... every week I visit the waste deposit to throw away 3 generations or more of various objects accumulated in my barn. The CJ5 is perfect for this.

Frankly speaking, I don't like to drive with my good old hard tires on wet road. I remember the problems with a Willys, by chance the road was empty.

I took the rear seat out of the jeep. There was jeep carpet which the PO gave me for templates. You can see remnants of the carpet stuck under the seat mounts on the floor. The floors are in decent shape overall but there is some rust and a small hole or two.

I took the rear tire carrier off as it was bouncing around a lot. It's gonna need some TLC. For now no spare tire carrier. It's useless right now anyway until I cut that lock off. The spare wheel is not a renegade wheel.

I ordered an HEI conversion from CRT performance, I'll be installing that very soon.

I am gearing up for winter where I will take the tub off and fix the floors and other rust, in fact if you look a couple posts back you'll see the awesome homemade flo tools floor pans from your local Auto parts store.
Still trying to decide the direction to go on this build. At this point I am just going to upgrade the problem areas like ignition, starter etc. However, I think the ride would benefit from new leafs but I'm hesitant to take the classic renegade stuff off.

Had an evening to drive The jeep and it's great. I love everything about this Renegade. Except the rust, but maybe I like that too it means I am going to fix it and in the process get to know this old girl.

The Jeep has the mysterious letter R that has been talked about elsewhere on this forum.

Heres a picture of the totally gone floor boards. Story was the jeep was under an overhang of a garage and got dripped on and wet for years. The PO took the tool box out which still has a lot of good metal. I put it back in and some temporary patches to enjoy the jeep for a little while.

Great Jeep! With that type of front bumper there is a license plate holder that bolts to a 3rd carriage bolt on the drivers side. The Commando guys have them and are available aftermarket.

Is there a rise in the drivers side floor?

Had some time to work on the jeep. I inspected the front brakes and put new axle oil in the front axle. I also took some photos of the frame damage I spotted when I was purchasing the jeep. I had asked the owner what shape the frame was in and he said it had no damage. Turns out when I get there to buy the jeep I spotted frame damage. It was obvious because of the piece of angle iron welded to the front of the frame. I also spotted a bunch of random looking holes drilled in the drivers side frame rail. Scratching my head on that one.

How about that body bolt in the last pic.....

@Norcal69 Yes that too, it appears the PO wanted to take the body off but never got that far. Good eyes.

Hello Montana, I don't think that frame is damaged. My frame has the same bugary welds that you pictured. If you continue researching R1 posts you'll find the factory added frame boxing to the '70 R1's

About the same time I got the renegade 1 I bought a go pro. I made a little video that included snipets from the road trip from Montana to CA to get the jeep as well as getting the jeep running.

Maybe I missed it but....I have a question. The extra gauges to the left of the column....they seem like they are mounted higher than I have seen in pictures of other renegades. Am I missing something?

And, for the record, I really like this JEEP. I wasn't sure at first if I liked that shade of green but, I do. Keep the progress reports flowing please.(y)

@wheelie thanks I like the jeep too. The gauges aren't original, I have the original gauges in a box because the PO replaced them. I don't believe they worked. However the location is the same as the dash doesn't look modified so I'm betting it's an optical illusion from my amazing camera work.
