Finally drug my "patio" winch out and did some work on it to make sure that it worked. I traded for this winch a long time ago and have never tested, mounted or done anything to it. It did it's best holding down the concrete of my patio for years.

I was happy to learn that it works well and doesn't even leak oil (yet).
The motivation for the work was my friend getting stuck in the snow in Moab and his winch not working and I had to do the trail repair, My wife wanted to know where my winch was!

Kinda cool to have a 8200. Criss cross between the upright models.

    Is your winch an 8074?

No, it's an 8200. precursor to the 8074.
It has power in and power out.

Interesting I did not know they made a power in/out on the old upright style till much later? Was that a different case and gear set or just reversible motor? Bought this #5721 New back in the seventies.....power in only and free spool , worked great , got my butt and many others out of plenty of jambs.

The brake is like the later model and the motor is directional

    Did too....
It kept the patio concrete from flying off into space

I believe these started out as a prototype of the 8274 and were later used to use up all of the older cases that Warn had.

I wonder what the gear train looked like in there or is it just the motor that is working in forward & reverse? And the brake acting in both directions?........is that a ratchet style drum?

    Motor is reversible.
Ratchet style brake but not a drum, flat disks with radial fins. Clock works style dog on center plate.
