I wanted this unit, but its deeper than the c channel bumper on the CJ. how would I mount it? angle iron mounted to the frame, and then the back holes of the receiver hitch would bolt to that, and the front holes through the bumper?

I mounted mine sitting on top of the drawbar, drilled lower holes through the back and through the back of the drawbar so it was bolted vertically and horizontally. I decided I didn't really like it though and put the original type hitch on the drawbar.

If you don't have a drawbar then your idea should work, just use thick enough steel, use backing pieces on thinner metal for reinforcement, preferably grade 8 bolts.
