Ever Use One Of These?

But the coolest find was this....

tire filling device from spark plug hole?

  3. Exactly.
I've never used one but friends of mine have. Rough engine for a bit, but beats a hand pump!

  5. Any idea as to what the inflation rate is compared to, say, an ARB?

They do not take air from the cylinder. The cylinder pressure moves a piston in the screw-in part, and fresh air comes in through the slots in the side. Takes a while, but they work fine.

Dunno about the rate compared to ARB. They are about as fast as the little $10 electric pumps that plug in to your cigar lighter.

Won't hurt to whip it out at the end of the day when surrounded by the cookie cutters (y)

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    ..a hundred times.
Still carry one and use one when nobody whom I with has on board air.
Fun to watch folks who have never seen one in action....the TJ guys.

  9. .....cookie cutters.....

    Oh...and wear a glove.
    That sucker gets hot !
Turning the engine idle as low as it will with a dead hole also helps.

  11. Funny you mention that. There was a left handed glove in the time capsule that looked a little crispier than the other....

Grandpa had an "air transfer" that could move air from the full tires to the flat so you had 4 squishy tires to get home on..

I have one of those (same?) still in the cotton bag with instructions printed on it. Will post pics soon.My tool box trove included 3 x rim wrenches, stock and hyd jack, various lengths of (lightweight) cord and rope, several pieces of plastic (lumber yard type) red flags, some rags, an AF Personal First Aid Kit (made in Taiwan), folding military style shovel, cheap axe, and a snake bite kit. Guy must have had a worrisome wife.
I pulled it out for a pic of the bag, reverse side has ordering info for different sized gutted spark-plugs. The pump itself is maybe a little older version with the hose having braided fabric (thread) casing, black faced dial and the mentioned spark-plug fitting tapped to accept the pump portion.
