Well I just blew the t 14 in my 71 again. The engine has big problems. What options are there out there to change motor and trans ? I'm thinking of a sbc as I have one collecting dust what issues would I run in to with this and thinking about a nv 4500 or nv 3550 for a trans. Thank you for your help

SBC and a T18 is my choice if picking. Lots of threads on motor swaps and Transmissions if you do a quick search.

Commando has a long enough wheelbase you should be able to use something like the NV4500...it's be nice to have a granny gear AND an overdrive in the same transmission. Plus they shift smoother than the old truck 4 speeds.

SBC parts are a lot cheaper than 225 rebuild parts.

I would go with an automatic in a Commando. A Chevy, either the V8 or 4.3L V6, has been done the most and is likely the cheapest and most available. Lots of inexpensive donors available too.

Seems the NV4500 is wildly expensive when you can find one. Supposedly the NV3500 came in Dodge and Chevy vehicles, but it may be less expensive to use the AX15 or NV3550 from a Jeep and adapt it to the engine you want. The Dana 300 transfer case will work with these transmissions using a relatively inexpensive clocking ring.

What's your axle ratlo? How tall are your tires?
