Anyone know a source for the front pipe (from manifold)? I've looked a good bit on the interwebs to no avail...

    I don't have a source for you.

But my local exhaust guy will make anything he needs, on the spot.

Rocauto.com has the whole exhaust or just pieces. They are an absolutely perfect fit. I have bought two of them now.

I looked at the exhaust kits on RockAuto and it appears that they only supply the muffler and tail pipe in the kit. Plus it's only available for '76-up, which may not fit exactly... and assumes you're using a catalytic convertor.

Here in Massachusetts, the exhaust system built by a local shop for my J10 has lasted nearly 15 years. They use a premium aluminum coated pipe, and warranty the pipe for 10 years as I recall. Walker replacement pieces last only a few years, in my experience.

I'm going to attempt to remove the existing pipe (looks rust-welded to the manifold... oh boy!) <== will be searching the forum for best practices here

The pipe itself *seems* to be in good shape, perhaps a good sanding and hi-temp painting along with fresh gasket and hardware and it will be serviceable. Also, that walker pipe has some ugly bends and seams....

If it's too far gone, sounds like bringing it to a PRO to copy is the way to go. Tim, 15 years in Mass is IMPRESSIVE. I grew up in WMass, the salt is real and plentiful...

    Thanks again, folks.

I've never had a front pipe rust out, on any vehicle, even in NH.

The rest of the system, for sure. My exhaust guy works in stainless now, even on the custom parts.

The shape of the front pipe, what I call a head pipe, will be determined by the engine you have. Four and six cylinder engines are usually a pretty simple affair, but a V6 or V8 will usually be a Y-pipe to connect both sides into one.
I have seen no mention of the engine type in this thread.
