i have just started to rebuild a T90 with a Novak kit. I just figured out that the small end of the cluster gear does not have the two keyways cut into it that the tabs of the washer fit in. Anyone know if this is normal and what the best solution might be?

It's been a few years since I was in a T90 but I believe that the key ways are in the case not the gear.

I just did mine last night with a rebuild kit from crown, and I believe (it was late) that on the small end the washer closer to the case had a tab that sets against the casting to stop it from rotating, then the inboard washer had two little tabs that sat into the small end of the cluster gear.

Thanks for the pic! That’s the washer I’m talking about. The small end of my cluster gear has no notches for that washer. I think I’m going to need to clean up the old washer and reuse it. I’ll post s pic as it looks different.

So I was scanning some cluster gears on the internet, and it seems some have the cutouts and some dont. Not sure why, but Im sure some Guru on here would let us know why.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Some have the notches in the cluster/counter gear and some in the case. You must match the thrust washer to what you have.

I built a T90C a month ago using new old stock parts and the cluster gear didn't have the notches cut in it. The gear came with a flat shim like your original in the picture.

Thanks, I cleaned up the old one with some sandpaper. I think it will make due.
