my boss has a set of 33 10.5 15 is offering a killer deal on them. I have 31 10.5 now.
I need tires bad, so will a set of shackles like the one offered in the classified sections make the difference. It seems to clear the 31s well I don’t have great pics sorry.[IMG]

The classified post I was talking about.

Your Jeep looks like a Tux. If you already have a 2.5” lift, the new 33’s will fit without having to change the shackles.

A tux? Really? How would I know? The plate on the firewall is gone? Once I get a break from work and can get this thing home I’ll be starting a build thread.

Do you know the VIN? Tuxedo Parks had special VINs from the other CJs. The CJ5s started with 8322 and the CJ6s started with 8422. Does your VIN start with 8322?

I don’t does CG00000 or 000000CG(can’t remember the letters) sound like a an original vin or has it been givin a state assignment at some point, quite a few jeeps in AZ have the little sticker they give you when they can’t find the vin some retain the original vin some don’t depends the inspector.

What year is it? The Tux ran from 64-67 I believe but the way these things get tubs swapped out, chopped up, and parts changed over the years it’s hard to keep track of what was what. I’m not a Tuxedo Park expert, I just own one and enjoy learning something new everyday (y). Either way, 33s will look awesome! I don’t believe you’d have any prob with them fitting and your wheels look like they have enough backspacing to keep the taller tires out of the leaves.

It’s a 65 from the title and all I can tell, it’s got a 327 and a car 4speed so it’s hard to say what it came with. However it’s been in the family I got it from for a long time so I’ll have to ask

The chrome hood and windshield hinges are tell tale of a Tuxedo Park.

The VIN you posted isn't like any cj5 VIN I've ever seen, Tuxedo Park or otherwise.

Ya I’m not sure you got me curious though. Is there anywhere on the tub/ frame aside from the firewall plate that the vin could be?

I noticed the chrome hood hinges and the chrome windshield hinges. Hard to see if the hood has the 3 holes on each side for the front hood emblems.

Beach66Bum. I’ll look I have a few other pics. The hood seems to be a different color too weren’t all tux jeeps white?

There were 4 original colours, white being one of the colours. In 1966, a few new colours were introduced.

I'd say get the 33s - I think you'll be fine, but worst case, you could get a slightly longer shackle if needed. Keep in mind that going from 31s-33s will make it drive a bit more sluggishly, although the v8 should easily overcome that. I would also say when I stepped up from 31s-33s, I felt the need to then upgrade the brakes a bit (went from 10" to 11" on the front). Also, if you are still running Ross steering, it will tax it that much more...if you have already been upgraded to saginaw then you should be fine. I love my 33s for wheeling!

Thanks for the input I do have a manual Saginaw upfront might go power at some point if it will play nice with the pto winch. I have always though 33s are a great size for a Cj. I’m looking real hard at Roxor axles as that would get me a d44 up front. And disks
You have a very nice Jeep by the way

I have 33s on my CJ-6 with no clearance problems (BDS springs and Mike's shackles though.)

As I understand it, the real hard limit comes from two issues with the body steel. First, the rear wheel arches are about 33" in diameter, so any larger than that and you have to cut or put it up so far that the tire never encounters the arch.

At the front, with an early I believe the issue is catching the front edge of the fender when the tire is stuffed. Possible you'd have this problem with no lift and 33s. You can trim the edge of the fenders to clear, or (I presume) you can lift and add blocks to the axle bumpers so that the tires never stuff far enough to contact the fender edges.

The intermediate and late models are different in this respect, in that the rear edge of the fender contacts the tire first.
