1903 6hp Ohio Engine Restoration

    I believe that you are hearing the engine "fire" its ignition. The engine of the "Hit & Miss" type and does not fire once in the four cycle stroke but rather it only fires when the RPM slow down to a point at which the governor reacts and sets it up for a "hit' (ignition).

    That is when the engine is firing. It coasts 6-7 cycles before firing again.
