Difference Between Early And Intermediate Frame Horns?

Does anyone know the difference between the early and intermediate frame horns? I'm looking at a intermediate front bumper for my 1967. I had a Currie Rock Jock on my TJ and loved it. Currie discontinued them and Smittybilt has a copy for the intermediate CJ. I'm sure I will need to do some modifying but the question is how much?

    Thanks in advance...

The early is smaller vertically than an Intermediate. I don’t have the measurements handy however.

I grab the measurement's off my 70 and 75 tonight unless someone gets to it before me.

I believe the front bumper was more of a cross member than a bumper. It tied the frame horns together to support the springs more than act as a bumper. Just my opinion, I welded an angle between my frame horns and bolted my tux bumper over it, the chrome Tux bumper has only two horizonal bolts in it, I felt the frame horns needed more strength to stabilize the frame horns. Just my $00.02, for what it is worth, Good Luck.

If all you need is a bumper, they are the same. PN 906781 (a '50s era number) through 1975. The very end where the bumper attaches does not change until 1976. The fronts of the frame are completely different, but they take the same bumper.

I just slipped my 55 cj5 bumper onto the 86 cj7 - it will bolt right up. The later cj only uses 4 bolts - one top and one bottom of each frame rail as opposed to the earlies 8 bolts - one top, two bottom and one on the bumper face.

Interesting. I had a ‘76 up front bumper and it needed spacers to use it on an early frame.

I'm going for an aftermarket look not OEM. My Jeep is past that.

    Thanks...
