Jeep Gladiator Pursue Or Not?

Discussion in 'Jeep Truck and FC Tech' started by James Robbins, Apr 30, 2021.

  1. Sorry but this is as close as I can get to the old Gladiator. It sits in an old defnct electric yard in S Atlanta. Let assume it will not start but has everything original (pretty sure this is right) but with a moderate to bad rust issue. I wanna get it off their hands....worth it for 500 bucks maybe?

If you don't like the patina keep looking or send it my way.

The cheapest iv ever seen one for sale is about 3500 even in that condition. Usually people swap in a 350 because the tornado engine sucks. I guess they bolt in pretty easy

They were available with a canvas top, and/or a metal "arctic' top with a fixed rear glass. Slider must be aftermarket.

Agreed. Don’t touch the body and leave the logo for sure. I’d pay $500 just for the door with the company logo. $500 for the whole thing would be a steal, IMO.

I've got a lot of experience with one of those trucks. This will be a '67/'68 model year. Tough and un-refined! The OHC 230 engine is the worst part of the truck. Dana 60 front, Dana 70 rear, divorced treansfer case, T98 compound 4 speed are all strong and keepers. 5.38 axle ratios are somewhat limiting for road use, but are friendly for increased tire diameters. Just drop in a SBC to make a great workhorse.

The axle ratio is deeper than 5.38, maybe 5.87/5.88? Something. They were already coming out of service in 1972 when I was hanging around the Jeep dealership in Fullerton. Not used up either, good condition. Brian did not get a lot of them; I remember one lot of 4 or 5? Maybe there were more that I did not see. I recall talking with my friend the shop mechanic, and he was impressed that the dash placard (?) said they would run on "distillate." Somebody in charge decided they should be surplus, even in their present condition. This was not typical - the M38A1s and M170s that were still available by that time were hulks with major components missing - parts cars for the service. Your typical vehicles that were available at auction were very ready to be discarded. At that time, M422s were dribbling out in pretty good condition too (not that it's relevant).
