Pcv? Blank Steel Line On F134

there is a steel line (similar to the fuel lines) that comes off of the PCV valve (i beleive), and it ends after less than a foot, and is just open. is it a vent?

Is that the only line on the PCV? It should connect to the intake manifold vacuum, and tee to the vacuum pump if you have one.

 

i don't have a vacuum pump, but it would make sense that that would have hooked into one at some point. the pump may not be the original. i'm at school now, but when i get home i can get a picture.

it looks like it ends right near the fuel pump

 

Here are your choices:
1. Remove the dead-end tube and plug the 'T' fitting. Not recommended as the motor is supposed to have vacuum augmentation in the PCV system.
2. Buy a dual-action pump and plumb the whole thing correctly. I see a lot of messy blow-by because of a dirty/non-functioning PCV system.

Isn't the vacuum from the manifold sufficient for PCV?

The pump was to augment the vacuum for the wipers, I thought. How would the pump assist the PCV by its output?

 

Yes, the vacuum pump was initially added to mitigate the performance fluctuations of the wiper system. At idle, they work fine. Accelerate and they will often just stop as the intake vacuum drops. Customers complained. Engineers discovered the additional, near-constant vacuum of the pump helped with the PCV for exactly the same reason.

 

i guess i might need to look for a different pump.

It should be connected to the inlet, or suction side.

 

Plug off the end going to the vacuum wipers

 

If so, where would you sent the output? And where would the wiper tube connect?


This page has the inlet of the pump connect to the wipers, and the outlet to the PCV Tee. How I would do it, so that the wipers get maximum effect - pump and manifold vaccuum working in series...

You don't. The pump was introduced to mitigate the wiper situation. So many complaints were received by Willys that the decision was made to go electric. What do we do with the pump? Engineer pipes up, "We can use it to augment the PCV system instead."
