I've been trying to find a company that'll mix my OEM PPG Renegade Yellow in a rattle can, and not having any luck. Anyone tried this? The websites I've found don't go back to '72. I just need to touch up floors and such so I really don't want to get into hardeners and reducers, etc.

I just did this for some body repair and repaint on my cj up in Denver. I used preferred auto and paint....highly recommend.

My old paint was severely faded and oxidized, so I had them color match a sample instead of using original paint code mix, but they can do either.

Our local NAPA has a paint dept and will put damn near anything in a spray can for you. Try a local Auto paint supplier have them mix you up some paint and then put it into a spray can.

Try your local automotive paint store. Usually they can make spray cans, or refer you to somewhere that can. The parts book that covers 1972 should show the Ditzler and Dupont code. I only have the J-series book for that year, and that does not include the special paints for the CJs. Faxon will sell you a book that covers 1972, but I can't guarantee that the code will be in there. Should be. https://www.faxonautoliterature.com/1962-1973-Jeep-CJ-DJ-and-Jeepster-Parts-Book-Reprint

Or take the glove box door and have the store match the color with their machine.

Thanks. Yeah I've tried a handful of paint supply stores here in the Melbourne area but they all said they used to fill rattle cans, not anymore.

Yep - already got the PPG paint code for it, just need someone to fill the rattle can. Thanks

If your paint stores won't refer you to another source, try your local Jeep clubs/car clubs/hot rodders - they must have a demand for this, and should have a helpful referral.

Have you checked with this company yet?

There's a note on the above page saying they probably have your color even if it isn't listed, and to give them a call.

Spray paint has been hit hard by the whole COVID/Supply chain issue. Our local Walmart spray paint isle has been 1/3 full for months. You might just be seeing a temporary unavailability related to that.

You’re most definitely right about that. I’ve been buying various shades of gray spray paint lately to finish up a vise restoration project, and the specific ones I’ve been looking for to try out are sometimes impossible to find.

This company may be another possible route. If they don't have the 1972 PPG color formula, it would likely involve matching your existing original paint color to a modern paint chip, then having them make custom spray paint to match the chip.

I had them custom-match spray paint to a chip several years ago, and it worked out well.

It's possible they're having issues or have even gone out of business due to the supply chain issues noted above.

Thanks for this. I'm not in the Springs anymore or I'd look into this. If nothing else works maybe I'll have them ship it to me in Florida. Thanks.

Our local shop could go the mixing but couldn’t get the cans as of late.

I did find some paint (ford lunar green in my case) mixed to factory paint code on eBay. I never did order it though, sold the truck before addressing rust repairs.
