Working on latch for glove box. The one I have does not work, looking for replacement. I bought a reproduction door from Walck's, not the right one from what I have found, glove box door is painted and installed, it was a pain to get it installed. Trying to find something that will work in the door. Attached are pictures of what I have. What do I need and where to find one?

Can you expand on what you mean by - does not work? Also do you have this piece mounted to the glove box opening in the dash

You can try soaking it with WD40 to clean it out, soaking it with oil and letting it drain off, the old latches get dirt and grime in them and are hard to work. You do need the catch for the top of the door like 55 Willys says, to make it work right. I had a key made for mine by a Locksmith too, it's nice to lock your glove box when you leave your Jeep alone. Good Luck

Understood. Also, you can take the latch apart and clean it. I see by what appears to be safety wire, the latch either came or was taken apart at one time. If this is the case, then there is a possibility some of the internal parts are missing. I suspect you might be missing a spring since you stated the button doesn't work. I took mine apart and cleaned it and works well enough.

If you don't want to take it apart then what Rick stated should help.

If you need the catch plate you can get one here: Glove Compartment (willysjeepparts.com) or post a WTB ad here on ECJ5. Hope you find what works best for you.

Just in case you are wondering what the insides look like:

I’d just keep squirting WD thru it and working it.

As I recall, when I did mine, that end plate is "staked" so you have to remove small amounts of metal and when putting it back together, "re-stake" it. Thus you only get so many times yo do it. And with the spring, it will pop out so keep finger on it so you can control the opening. Slow and careful. I did mine only to rechrome the button.

Thanks! I tried that last night and it worked. Now I cannot remove the lock and button. Are they also supposed to come off? Button needs rechrome too.
