Need some advice....My jeep is registered in CO which requires front and rear plates....I did order antique vanity plates but I assume it's still 2 plates....What do you do if your trying to stay as original as possible and there's no front license plate holes? What is acceptable in the restoration world?

Not sure what bumper you have, but just about all CJ bumpers have some holes pre-drilled in them for various purposes... Whether when in CO or now in MT, I drilled holes in my license plate to match up to some holes that where already in my cj bumper. And yes, colorado collector plates will come with both front and back.

They get mashed on the bumper. I clamp mine to the grill with some small j-bolts.

My '68, '69, and '71 all have these slots on the passenger side of the front bumper for the license plate:

My bumper (off a '59) has factory slots along the passenger side top to mount a plate.

Do you have a winch? There's a slick license bracket available that snaps into the fairlead.

I have seen a "tee" shaped bracket bolted to the right side of the bumper to position the plate above it. No idea if these were ever a stock item.

My last rendition on my flatfender locates it centered below the bumper. It is spring loaded in the down position but folds up with any forward contact. It can be locked in the "up" position.

could easily attach it with bailing wire (or even rope/twine) around the front bumper if you don't want to drill holes in the bumper. And yeah, drill additional holes in the plate if needed. I mount the rear plates on my CJs farther inward and farther up than factory, so they don't hang down as far. I drill holes in my plates.

You can get these brackets off eBay to mount the front license plate like on the Tuxedo Park models

Did that bracket have any particular kind of name?

Not legal in my state, so a cop told me. Must be "bolted."

On my YJ the front plate is mounted to hang below the bumper, on a rubber mudflap so it can deflect without damage.

you could attach the bailing wire to a safety wire bolt somewhere else on the jeep, and technically it's bolted on :bananatool:
