That is the final color. Spruce tip green. I think the reflections and texture make it look more spotty than it really is.

I finished painting the tub yesterday and blasted the grill and pedals today, but I can’t upload images so you guys will have to take my word for it! I learned the importance of cleaning your paint gun well. I had a tough time getting good wet coats for my clear coat.

Primer day. Next weekend, I am going to redo the tub. Way too little clear coat and the color coat was uneven. Keep your paint guns clean, boys!

Great advice. Thank you. Any reason to do that for the clear coat?

edit: I was planning/instructed to do three medium coats of base color and two medium wet coats of clear.

if its base clear go wild with the last few base coats like every wich direction and even pull back and add a little pressure to dust the last one or two on and no tack between the base and clear. no need to on the clear coat just a nice even overlap. i do two medium base then two or three dusty ones to even it out followed by a medium clear and then two wet ones. i dont wet sand or buff.

Any tips for painting something that has two surfaces like a tailgate. My understanding is that clear coat needs to be applied fairly shortly after the base coat and that base coat shouldn't cover up clear coat as could happen with overspray.

Do I base coat side 1, base coat side 2, clear coat side 2, clear coat side 1 or

Base coat side 1, clear coat side 1, base coat side 2, clear coat side 2?

Hang the panel, paint both sides, clear both sides

What about the part that has string through it, in this case, the eyes of the tailgate?

There will be a slight blimish where the wire contacts the eye but don't don't get too worked up about it.

You can run a broomstick through the top tube and hang it from the stick.

Put some window screen over the box fan and any ventilation openings. :poke:

Am I correct to assume that is to keep the outside stuff from getting in? I have an HVAC filter on the outside surface of the fan. I actually like the ventilation better from a carpet fan on the floor and air filters in the plastic. The box fan blows too hard where I am painting.

Yeah gotta keep the bugs out. My better neighbors have a bug net for there entire garage door with a magnetic seam in the middle to walk through.

for what its worth...I use a big fan with filters on it to push air into the shop and a slightly smaller one to exhaust the air resulting in a slight positive pressure thus keeping bugs and dust to a minimum .
