I got to thinking today, either normal thoguht or with a crack pipe ;)

Well the trailer i have already had the rear torched out, and i used some stainless steel hinges to make a tailgate. Well it is pretty hoeky and i am going to change it. I was thinknig to keep it in a jeep theme, and use a CJ tailgate in the rear. I measured it, and the tailgate is about 3-4 inches shorter than the sides of the trailer. I am pondering just leave the tailgate a bit lower. I am going to weld back on the ends of the original rear panel so that i jsut have the tailgate to swong down. would be interesting to get a WILLYS stamped tailgate to mount on the trailer. So.. is this just a crack pipe dream or maybe somebody else has done it??

Interesting idea Dan. That way you could use the standard CJ tailgate
    hinges. Very interesting.....

I have been thinking the same thing.... My 416 has a tailgate but it is very flimsey, but the opening is the same at a CJ tailgate, for me it.s just a matter of the hinges and then put on the new tailgate., If I get a chance i'll get a pic of my tailgate., and post it

You should see a civilian Spen tailgate. That is the way a tailgate should be made. It's a big rod at the bottom of the tailgate and the rod extends past the tailgate edge and is attched on the side of the body. None of that flimsy Bantam "door hinge" style attachment.
