not sure if i should post this here or in the intermediate section........but.......

What paint are you guys using to paint your frames?

A few years ago i helped a buddy redo his fiberglass "5" and once the frame was sandblasted he used a brush on type of paint from the local Tractor Supply, but i can't remember what it was. He passed away last year, and had sold the jeep about a year before he passed on :(

The only thing i remember about the paint, is it was glossy and once dry i had made the comment of "looks great.....until you scratch it" and he grabbed a ball-peen hammer and smacked the crap out of the frame. No paint chipped or anything......stuff was TOUGH!!!

Anywhos, just curious what would be best to use for a trail rig.......

russo Hope is not a method

POR 15 seems to do a great job and is bullet proof. I found it a pain to apply but worth the effort. Just don't get it anywhere you don't want it.

Your friend is correct the paint is made by BPS it is tractor and implement paint it is tuffer than a pigs snout... I used it as a base primer for my military jeep frames and it is the stuff.. alot cheaper than POR and alot easier to apply.

BPS sounds right.....i thought it was "B" something, but couldn't remember........i'll pop in to TSC tomorrow and see if they still have it. I looked a few weeks ago, but can't remember for sure. I do know they have tons of implement paints though

I think I've seen that color there. Painted a couple of jeeps a trailer or two and a tractor with that. Can't beat $22.00 a gallon six dollars more if you buy the activator.

Thats it ... I bought the red oxide primer then sprayed Gloss Black for the frame and axles on my M38A1 SHORE PATROL... Its the shinest paint I ever used...and resonabley priced........

Use Eastwood rust encapsulator as a prime and chassis black as a top coat. Excellent finish when applied correctly.

Basically what I'm doing. Only using Hammerite Rust Cap instead of Eastwood.
