EDIT (rev 3, 2016) - After some debate, possibly 2 different shades of green found. Some owners reporting a color closer to traditional Buick Green, others closer to the Hampstead Green, paint code BG11M.

    The original thread:

Exactly as I found it in the big book o' paint codes today:

Buick (1966 & prior) Hampton Blue (Green)
    Ditzler #42991

Ditzler has since been bought by PPG. The counter guy sold me this cross-reference:
    Chrysler #7432

I will be (hopefully) shooting some later this week and will post a pic of the color.

Sparky, thanks for your timely help.

Moderator note: Maybe this post would be better in the resto forum?

Is that an exact match for the '70 or '71 Dauntless?

It would appear so. I'll be able to report for sure once I shoot some paint and post pics.

Should be. Kaiser didn't change the paint color. Buick did after selling the V6 casting.

    Buick is Blue
Dauntless is Green (guess they didn't have a color that started with D)

Well, looks like I struck out. Here is a sample of the PPG color I received from the paint store. Looks way too dark to my eye:

Also, does anyone know if the original paint was metallic or solid?

I wouldn't judge it by a sample tab.

Looks like Buick used a lighter green color and a darker blue green. The darker blue-green is what's above.

    `53 - `58 #PT15E Early Buick V8 Pale-Green Engine Enamel 12oz
    `59 - `66 #PT15 Late Buick Blue-Green Engine Enamel 12oz

But I can't find color samples...

Seems odd, the 198 in Eugene was definitely light green not blue-green.

Wonder if they could color match it?

They can, if I have a sample. I can't find a single patch of original paint on either of the Dauntless that are currently residing at my place. I know the Detroit Alpine Green is pretty close, but I just think it would be cool if we all had an exact paint code to use if needed.

That's actual paint. I dipped a piece of glossy paper in there, let it dry, then scanned it. On my monitor it looks pretty darn close to the actual color the store mixed, but darker then what I see on the Dauntless motors in the Gallery section.

Not sure how much is left on mine but I'll take a look tomorrow afternoon. Heck if there is a place I'll chip it off for you, not like its going anywhere soon.

Also, remember, that image in the gallery is from a piece of paper who knows how old and has been scanned and displayed on a monitor and isn't color corrected, blah, blah, blah.

But the color does appear darker than what's under the "GM" Blue on my V6.

I don't have the block anymore. Was the color the same as the brochure in the Literature section, or more like the motors in the Gallery? The ones in the Gallery also look metallic to me.

Just went and looked at mine, no help there. It looks like a homer mixed paint, blue and light green. :(

POR 15's color chart. Looks like the 53-65 Buick Green they show there, not metallic either from I can recall.

I'd run what you got.. looks close to me. most any color match will be just as flawed due to age, smog, etc.

Here we go again. I gave up the last time attempting to find an exact match. I think we all concluded a while back that there were two colors used on the Dauntless. Both were primarily green but the later one had more blue in it. I agree Clint. The PPG color is too dark, at least how it appears on my computer screen. And yes, the original paint was definitely metallic. Geez, wish we could eventually put this one to bed.

Edit: I sure am a slow typer. Six members responded in the time it took for me to post mine.

I agree. There is still plenty of original engine paint on my Dauntless. I'll look into someone doing a color match on it locally. I checked into it before but never followed through thinking that there was already a code out there. That still sort of bothers me that one couldn't be found.
