WWII Airforce jeep

    A friend of mine has what I beleive to be an Air Force jeep from WWII. it's a flattie with a good deal of baby blue paint left on it. What model jeep is this? It has been stored under cover and the body is in pretty good shape. Am I correct to assume it's probably an old AF jeep?

    Sparky, wish I could get pics but now and for the forseeable future I'm in Houston TX and the jeep is in Yazoo City MS. I know it's not going anywhere and want to buy it when I move back there (hopefully soon). Just wondered if you could tell me what model it is or probably is so I can start dreaming and planning upgrades. thank you

    Well without a very exact description or pics a "flatfender" covers 20+ years of Jeeps and five common models.

    If it is truly original military and AF blue I'd guess M38, but that's just a hunch. Like I said, no pics, no model designation with any certainty. :)

    Thank's Sparky, I knew I couldn't get a definitive answer w/o pics but I'm almost sure it's original WWII. I remember it looked just like my Grandfather's WWII army jeep but in baby blue. I'll try to get pics over Christmas. Thank you.

    I could be wrong, but if it's an original WWII jeep, then it's probably a Ford GPW or a Willys MB that was then transferred over to the Air Force since the Air Force wasn't necessarily a branch of the government until after WWII. After the MBs, I think the M38s came next, but I don't know how long they were in production until the M38A's came out. A good source of info on military jeeps is the www.g503.com website. Might also want to do some research there. Good luck!

    Good point equine, the Air force as we know it today was part of the Army known as the Army Air Corps. Completely slipped my mind.

    Ah, that's it - the Army Air Corps. I knew it was something like that. Still, I'm sure that old jeep is part of an interesting piece of history if it dates back to WWII!

    It could have been sold/given to the civil air patrol for there use after the millitary. They also painted their vehicles blue.

    I wouldnt call the starta blue a baby blue. Of course with lots of fading it could be. here is my USAF m38

    The air force used dark blue and before 1947 they were the army air corp. So it could of been an army jeep that was later auqired by the air force.

    Wouldn't blue have been Navy during WWII? I think they went gray after the war but could be wrong.
