Wiring harness question

    Okay, I tried searching the forums first but had no luck.

    I am now starting to tackle some of the wiring issues on the 1972 basket case 5 (304 motor). Most of the wiring was butchered and is no good. The PO just cut wires and brake lines randomly (another story) as he seperated the body and frame. Of course 40 years of "custom" repairs were also found under the dash complete with what looked like the power cord from a house hold lamp used in two places. So I've decided to discard all of the old wiring harness in an effort to save my sanity. I've looked at the EZ wiring mini 12 and the Painless wiring harness kits. Are there any other kits? I found a Walcks kit discussed in the early cj forum during my search but they don't seem to make one for intermediates just early models.

    If anyone has used any of the above kits or a different kit please give pros and cons so that I can try to make a fairly informed decision. I don't want to have another hack job of a wiring harness in the vehicle.

    Recently completed the wiring on my 72' CJ5. Picked up an race car 12 circuit harness on eBay. Yes, it was less expensive.. but did not have complete circuits, connection plugs and instruction was incomplete. Although, the wiring was marked and easily modified for installation!

    Used the above harness with 72' Jeep wiring schematic and completed. In retrospect... I would suggest the Painless Wiring harness. It should be easy to make a few small revisions to wire up the dash warning alternator lamp, fuel level and any other changes "if" the original dash operation is your wish?

    Have heard... the Painless service and Customer support is top notch! I'm sure the other Owners that have used Painless will chime in with other suggestions.

    I went with the EZ Wire kit. It was very complete and I'm happy with it. I got the 21 circuit and have quite a few left over if I ever need it. I couldn't see paying the premium for the Painless kit. From what I've heard they're essentially the same, customer support not withstanding (I didn't use it).

    I used a Painless on my 75 . My next harness will be ez wire. However, having never rewired a Jeep before the Painless was quite easy and a good lesson . Like I said, the next one will be an ez wire.
