My 67 CJ5 build

I got the removable transmission cover made by MD Juan. Took a few hours to fit it in, but I am happy with it. I ended up welding some 1/4 inch plate/strips under the floor where the tunnel would attached. Drilled holes in the floor,though the strip, then taped the holes, 1/4-20. the bolted the tunnel down. You can check my build, slowly getting pictures back up.

 

I would post a want add. Someone may have a tub they are trashing and has a better tunnel that could be salvaged.

I need the actual tunnel that gets welded in between the 2 floor pans

 

After I reread your post, I saw you where looking the welded in section. I left my post up , in case you need that section. The section you need is not that complicated. You could have it made in a sheet metal shop, the bends will be sharp, the original, the bends are rounded. Do not know if you are trying to keep the Jeep original, the section is in between the seats which is not easily seen.

Some one on here, cut one out to put a gas tank in. Might be able to get that, would be a good pattern.

 

Parts are trickling in. A bit different but workable.



Decided to make my life easier and ordered a rear panel for pass side







A bit disappointed the top notch was missing on the new panel. Oh well we love a challenge right ?

the hardest part of the notch is cutting it out of the new panel, the radius at the bottom was/is a pain...

I decided it was easier to fit the panel if it was in 2 pcs





Weld, hammer, grind.....weld hammer grind....weld hammer grind lol more tomorrow

 

I noticed that both sides are not the same, only one side on mine is semi worthy of making a pattern. Maybe someone here can make a cardboard mock up i can go off of. They just don't exist online

 

Decided on a whim to try to make a transmission tunnel. I made a templet out of cardboard then tranfered to wood




Since I have no idea how long the sides are since mine were gone I left extra material



Just tacked for now







Not sure if it will fit but looks promising. This project would be a lot more stress free if I could weld better

 

Lol. Not really. I hide my mistakes well

 

wood is tough for me you cant weld a little back on once cut too short...metal is forgiving heat it beat it and weld it till it submits. you are doing just fine as long as you keep the welding heat spread out over the whole panel it shouldn't warp too bad.

 

The end that the transmission cover sits on. You might want to have that sitting in place when you weld the hump in, to make sure the two pieces fit and look good

I got a new one MD Juan made,from D&L Bensinger. It was good. When mounting it, I welded some 1/4 inch flat stock under the floor. I would drill a hole and tap it and install a bolt to mount/fasten it. Worked my way around. Used a 1/4-20 bolt.

 

Wow, all I can say is wow. You are doing a great job.

 

Sometimes we need a double like button.

I did cut my tunnel out and still have it but I already promised it to someone on here, just haven't mailed it yet. I could take some pics and measurements for you but I think you are past that part now.
