I picked up this Stihl TS420 concrete saw at an estate sale in a tub of a hundred pieces for just about free. I put it all back together with a new piston and bearings, filter belt and a few other parts. Iv got to fire it up and see if it will run before i spend another 50 on a muffler. Iv got like 70$ in it now. I might put a metal blade on it and use it for scrapping stuff. If I dont use it this summer I will sell it in the fall

In 1991 I bought a brand new stationary 9x48" combination disc/belt sander from Grizzly. It has worked for thirty years until recently, when turning it on was hit or miss. Sometimes it will operate normally. Other times the sanding belt will barely turn or completely stall out and stop. Usually, motor problems are due to one of two problems. One, the motor starting capacitor is bad or two, the centrifugal switch that disconnects the starting capacitor when the motor comes up to speed no longer works. I tested both and they tested good. I decided to take the machine apart and determine whether the motor was the problem or the turning parts of the machine were gummed up and wouldn't turn. With the belt off, the sanding mechanism turned freely, but the powered up motor ran slowly. A new motor was more expensive that the original sander. I took the motor apart to see if I could see what was causing it to run slowly. When I removed the armature, the bearing supporting the output shaft was obviously the problem. The bearing would hardly turn.

I used a bearing puller (from my jeep project!) to remove the friction fit bearing from the armature shaft. Luckily, the bearing number was stamped on the outer race. I was able to order a new bearing from Amazon and it arrived a couple days later. I pressed the new bearing on the shaft and reassembled the motor. It ran perfectly. With the machine back together, it works fine again. I hope it lasts another thirty years and I'm still able to use it as a really old man.

Nice. You never now how simple it will be until you dig in. My neighbor had a bad skil saw and i fixed it turned out there was just wood dust clogging up the switch. He couldnt believe how they could make a wood saw that isnt sealed from dust.

Picked up a TTR250 yesterday. I got it to kinda run this morning. Just needs a few parts and it should be ready to rip.

We ordered some new wheels for my wife’s car that arrived today.
21 years of potholes have made the old ones impossible to balance.

Volkswagen Dune Buggy that my dad and I rebuilt.

Originally blue with a '62 chassis and a '54 1200cc engine. Dad rescued it from the junk yard becuase the motor was seized but he got it running.

Thats me in the buggy around '94 or '95. It stayed this way until the floors completely rotted away and I asked to start working on it in 2008.

Now, its orange with a '67 chassis and '68 1500cc engine. I take her to work on the highway, tops out around 70mph without too much trouble.

Well, over a week later, and the car still looks like this…

These Volvos use tapered lug bolts that thread into the hubs rather than studs and lugnuts, and the heads/hexes of the bolts were way too wide to fit in the holes in the new wheels. I had to drop another Benjamin+ on this for a wheel stud kit that includes matching lugnuts and thread locker that was crushed in shipment and leaked everywhere. The new nuts *just* fit in the holes.

Should have it back on the road by this evening.

Most recent is my 21 Colorado- added a leveling kit plus 1”, which is about 3” in front and 1 in the back. I scored a set of wheels and tires off the zr2 version of the truck and a canopy off a guy who overloaded his truck with expedition gear until he bent the frame. (Looked like he drove through 4wp with a crap magnet on his truck) here it is behind my Covid built shovelhead.

I pulled it over a bit it didnt really do much im not sure if it has spark or not it seemed like it wanted to kick but didnt really. Tomorrow ill add fresh fuel check spark and try again.

400M I'm building for a guy. It's going in a 79 F250 and the guy plans to drive it to his wedding in 6(?) weeks. I did all the machine work and I'm overseeing assembly also.

Hey hey, you did about the only good thing you can do with one of those boat anchors, and put the right heads on it. The 400 might run forever, but man are they dogs in stock trim.

I tried to get him to build a 429 or 460 but he just had to have the 400. Imo, a big block would've been better money spent.

Yeah, that or an FE would have been better, but I've seen some alright 400's, after you throw alot of money at them, it's not a platform completely devoid of use, unlike the 351M.

I got tried of dragging an extension cord out to the yard. I need power out there to run hedge trimmers, fan for the green house, music box for sitting at the fire pit...things like that. So i went on a shopping spree and bought a 100 watt solar panel, 1500 watt inverter, charge controller and a couple of deep cell batteries. To make them"system" portable I needed some wheels. I located a stroller for free on CL that started its' life hauling toddlers around. With some mods to the stroller I was able to mount everything onto it. With about 6 hours of sunlight I can get the batteries to 100%. Depending on the load I get several hour of free power. I also use it in the shop to run power tools, an
d a shop light, shop vac, etc. Turned out to be pretty handy.
