PTO shopping - Dana 18 transfer case w/Warn OD

    1.) Any suggestions in finding past threads regarding PTO installs in general? 2.) Or, any ideas for an install behind a Dana 18 transfer case with a Warn Model 336V6 Overdrive in a 1967 CJ5 225 V-6 with non-original T-98 transmission ? 3.) Any suggestions on what to shop for, or what to stay away from regarding pto's ... I don't own a PTO assembly yet. Thanks,

    Thanks for this response-- Causes me to try and make a decision on what variety of things I want a pto to accomplish. Also, caused me to see what potential pto options are out there. A little one-minute video (link below) suggests three positions--front, middle and rear. Not sure if all three options were available to the CJ, but I was foremostly interested in the rear location. Looking forward to more comments. [​IMG]

    My first question would be what is the intended use? That should determine what direction you go.

    Rear mostly--can one have front and rear both? Appears to me you could with Model 58X. [​IMG]

    As you noted, yes the PTO stops when you step on the clutch, also PTO speed and direction directly correlates to what gear the transmission is in. If your going to try to run a snow blower with it you will probably have to go to low range in your transfer case in order to drive slow enough while still spinning the snow blower fast enough. You will also want to be careful about going into reverse... I'm not sure how much snow blowers like being spun backwards.:?

    Located the following rear pto. What do you think about 1.) install behind a Dana 18 transfer case with a Warn Model 336V6 Overdrive in a 1967 CJ5 225 V-6 with non-original T-98 transmission. 2.) completeness of offered pto? 3.) how about that price - $900 plus shipping. 4.) Other opinions ?

    Seller says,

    *Rear pto for jeeps it will fit the spicer 18 transfer case...

    - complete, cleaned and painted pto for $900.
    - everything turns and functions very nice.
    - includes the shift unit (attaches to back of spicer 18 transfer case), drive shaft,
    and rear gear box.
    - great for that vintage farm look or can definitely be used to run implements like
    brush mowers, etc.

    You'll need a shorter driveshaft- beyond the T98 & adapter the overdrive & od-pto adapter move things back 8 or 10 inches. The PTO itself is worth $50-$75. The b=gear reduction box is probably worth ~$500.

    $900 seems a couple of hundred bucks too much.

    Way too much money for that unit. I could see maybe that much if it had the winch or other attachment that you would actually use. The adapter to run a PTO with an overdrive is pricey too.
