T-18 Id Help

    Hey guys, picked up a T-18 1B from a guy selling really cheap. I was just curious as to what year it was out of. It did come out o a CJ-5 as I got the bellhousing and shift fork with it and it is the short input shaft. It is the wide ratio as I counted the input to output shaft revolutions and it matches the 6.32:1.
    The T-18 still had the tags on it. The tag had 5356735 and 13-01-177.
    The top cover is stamped with 13-01-097-901. The side of the case is stamped T-18 1B but from what I have read that does not mean much.
    Due to it being from a CJ-5 and wide ratio with reverse to the right and up I would think either 77 or 78.
    Can anybody here help me out and able to decode the tag for me.

    Those are the best transmissions for a CJ. Ever. At least I think so. I have one.

    IMHO the 1977 and 1978 CJ T18 is absolute tops for old jeeps excepting those with 134 engines.

    I have the same on, did install it this summer.

    The wide ratio is the best you can have for a trail/road rig :)

    That is great, thanks guys for the info. I am in the process of installing it.
    I have one more question. I removed the top the other day and noticed that what appears to be a synchro close to the input shaft is missing the top third of it. It does not look like it is broken. It looks like it was machined that way. I have looked at numerous websites with a parts breakdown and cannot see this part. Can someone let me know if this is normal. the rest of the tranny is immaculate, no wear whatsoever.
    I tried to upload o pic of it but I am having troubles.

    Normal so you can remove the main drive gear out thru the front of the transmission case.
    It would be rotated down towards the bottom of the case so that it clears the cluster gear.

    Sweet, thank you. That takes a load off. I didn't think there was anything wrong due to the way the rest of the inside looks, but always safe to ask.

    Having recently sold 'Go Fast' my '78 Kawasaki Z1R turbo to a guy in IN. I came into some cash to get into my T18 it's tagged 13-01-065-907 & a Ford Tag of EOT3-GA which I'm guessing is the plant number. I lucked out at AAMCO, they pulled the front and rear bearings for me so I just have to get at the internal (infernal?) snap rings. I've got a cheapo (Evercraft-NAPA) brand of snap ring pliers. What do you guys use?

    I got mine apart with those Everkrapts and while they didn't flex they seemed a bit clumsy. My issue now is the removal of the Reverse Idler Gear shaft. I tried beating on it with my 5 lb. cross peen and a pair of 6" drifts but once I got going I couldn't hold the two drifts together. Tried prying the shaft through with a socket, carrige bolt a nut with a few washers last night but keeping it together in the case wasn't easy. May try again tonight, one thing's for sure that shaft is definetely in there.
