    I'd certainly check that the brushes are functional. Definitely a maintainence item on generators. Easy fix if so.

    But nothing wrong with getting it reconditioned if you have an old fashioned motor shop in town.

    Got the 3A running today . Polarized the generator as suggested and it jumped up the voltage immediately. Voltage regulator is putting out 13.6 volts. Seems like it's working properly now.

    Great News :)

    One thing- you might want to adjust the voltage up a bit- modern batteries want to be charged at around 14.8 volts. Charging a a modern "maintenance free" battery at 13.5 will reduce it's lifespan.
