Looking for any info or experiences to bolt a dana 20 shifter housing/output housing onto a Dana 18?
What I am looking to do is try extend my shifters forward a bit to clear seats. The original position of the Dana 18 shifters will interfere on my project.

When I put the V8 and automatic in my '61 I moved the shifters forward about 4" using a length of 3" channel. It fit/ bolted where the shifter pivot was. Made shift rail extensions from 3/4" stainless rod. I can take some pictures and send them to you to post if interested.

^This. The D18s with the single shifter are easier to do this because the rails are already drilled rather than notched, but I've done it with both styles.

On the ones with the twin-shift housings, I drilled a hole horizontally through the notched area of the rails, and I used a piece of 3/4" pipe over the rail with a bolt through a matching hole. The rail OD is 5/8" IIRC, but you want it a hair oversized to allow for the vertical movement in the swing of the shifter.

I made a bracket for the shifters off of either the trans mount bolts or the top cover bolts, depending on where I needed them.

I have a single stick assembly for a D18 I would love to see exit my storage. PM me if interested.
