So if one is to use swinging pedals does everyone just toss out the heater? Is it possible to move the heater to the passenger side without too much trouble?

Plenty of articles on the Jeep Factory heater........which I think is a waste of time relocating as it is designed to only heat outside cold air rather than reheat inside warm air....the basic CJ factory heater I've seen only fits on the Drivers side.....along with the ducting to the defrost & floor is such that it would only fit on the drivers side without major mods.........Most go to an aftermarket heater like ones found on Summit...much easier to fit on the passengers side and better suited to reheat air in the cab..........although the ducting for the Summit heater can be challenging...

I tossed the stock heater in my '67, installed a Mojave heater under the dash centered over the tranny. Puts out 3 times more than the stock, easy to install.

Along with a thread in Intermediate help with swing pedals. Very informative and nice work. If I ever find an empty shop!

When we got Tonk he had some big 'ole heater out of (I'm assuming) an old pickup on the passenger side firewall-

Plenty of room under there for whatever.

Howard, that heater looks like what my 55 had in it. It had a hinged door for heat on the left maybe 3x3.5 inches. Above that it had two round openings - one ducted up to the defrost and the other we capped with the lid from a baby food jar. I know the 55 cj5 did not have the drivers side heater - and no heater delete plate either. I never found any evidence of who the manufacturer was and never saw another one like it. I always assumed it was added later but seeing your picture makes me wonder. Even the position looks the same or at least very similar. I still have the Jeep but unfortunately not the heater.

I know for certain it was added by the PO but your description certainly sounds like it. I still have it kicking around the garage someplace, I replaced it with a Harrison but I just can't bring myself to throw it out.

I'd love to know what it came out of.
