Welders And Fire Season

Fond memories of carbon-arc cutting the floors out of trash trucks in the PA sun in 95° temps with 98% humidity in full leathers... having to drop my arms to dump the sweat that was pooling in my elbows. I'm done with that noise.

 

Oh, this isnt likely weather related, but it falls under the ‘gona leave a mark’

I know the feeling.

 

Wow...........got to wonder , what the heck could they have been welding on that got away from them that quick?

 

Remember that Firefighters don't know jack about welding, or most anything blue coller anymore. Anything that makes sparks is "welding" to any public information officers.

 

Here in Washington, a construction crew repairing a bridge started a wildfire.

On August 13, 2012 construction workers welding on a Highway 10 bridge deck near Cle Elum, Washington caused a massive wildfire, which become known as the Taylor Bridge Fire. It burned 23,500 acres, destroying 61 homes and multiple outbuildings. One thousand fire personnel were assigned to the Taylor Bridge Fire, which continued to threaten homes for the next fifteen days.

 

That's why per OSHA you're required to have a fire extinguisher within 10 feet at all times when welding in commerical settings.

 

They were splicing a unibody car together they buy wreaked cars and rebuild them to sell.from what I heard a spark ignited debris on the floor.this is why you always have a fire lookout when doing hot work.

 

Well I guess a fire lookout is a good Idea , when your welder seems to lack any common sense and housekeeping abilities..............debris on the floor? or flammables nearby? , I would guess the latter to get that going as quickly as it did........That Business will have a hard time recovering from that.......
