Gas Pedal Question

I'm having an issue where I pretty much have to lift my foot off the floor to reach the gas pedal, which isn't fun with a hanging pedal, especially when I'm 6' 2" and my knees hit the steering wheel. I also find myself hitting the gas with my foot when pressing the brake pedal, also not good. Is there an adjustment I'm missing or do I just have a bad memory of when I drove this last 40 yrs ago lol

No authority here, but if you're working with a hanging pedal on a 1967, you're working with a custom conversion. So, your need is to figure out what sort of a conversion has been done and if it can to tweaked to satisfty your requirements.

    No conversion here. Its factory

Sorry, I thought you were talking hanging pedals other than the gas pedal. The angle of the camera may be to blame but your pedals appear much closer than mine. I'll dash out and measure mine and reply.

It measures 2" between the right edge of the brake pedal pad to the left edge of the gas pedal. So, the other words, there is a 2" gap.

2" gap between pedals ? No way I have that. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2"

A 2" thick object could slide/pass through the gap between the pedals.

Would you consider removing the suspended accelerator pedal and bending it? That would move it away from the brake pedal and solve one issue. Then you could install a foot rest on the tunnel to support your heel when you're on the accelerator.

Another possibility is a hot rod gas pedal. I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket pedals that could be adapted. Speedway Cast Aluminum Accelerator Throttle Pedal Assembly

I will bend if I have too but I'll see what if any adjustments i can do

I was out running the '67 in hills yesterday--and, as often, I had to consciously think about foot placement to work the gas pedal properly. I can't easily rest my foot on the side of the tunnel and operate the gas pedal as I'm accustomed in my other vehicles. I use a twist-n-lock throttle on occasion for off-road cruise control.

Do you have a lot of slop in the brake pedal? It may need rebushed. Also check that the pedal tube bracket on the frame has not been hit bending it. Is the clutch pedal OK or does it slant towards the column?

Not that it has anything to do with your pedals, but I’m also in the taller crowd. I’ve got a ‘75 and I ran into the same issue of hitting my knee on the steering wheel. My solution was to cut and add about an inch to the bottom of the steering column mount, cut the dash at the top of the steering column, and then tilt the whole works up towards the windshield.

Now, I know you’re wrapping up your restoration, but the only thing I had to repaint was my steering column and where no one will ever see behind the mount. Made a huge difference!

    Sorry for the hijack. :waiting:

No pedals are tight.it lines up with the master cylinder perfect

My 67 pedal was like yours. I never did figure it out. I used to drive with my toe on the hump and accelerate with my heel. Sounds weird and I guess it was. I got used to it.

It was just too high off the floor.

That sounds like a good idea for an intermediate CJ, but it won't work on a 71-older CJ with stock steering, the column is actually a part of the steering box.

The floor cover that has the throttle assy attached to it may have gotten bent when doing the resto.

Speaking of brake pedal bushing anyone know where I can get one? Mine are really bad and I found many but nothing listing a cj5 w/v6

I had that issue with a 70 and was able to rotate the pedal to the left where it attached to the pivot arm to solve it.
