Has anyone used A Disc Brake Conversion from Horse Power Sales LLC?

If so What are You're Thoughts on it . Was there any problems with it and

would You use it again ? ( 1974 Jeep cj5 , Dana 30 front axle .)

I have yet to install mine on my 74 but it seems complete and well packaged. They gave me a set of studs that hold the spindles to the knuckles which I'm hoping is not necessary, seems like a lot of extra work. Plan on getting a new proportioning valve too.

 

just finished installation on my 73 cj5...fairly straightforward but I'm still trying to sort out mc and brake pressure issues...nothing to do with the kit really. I thought the kit was pretty good.

 

Don't know what this kit costs but you should be able to do a disc swap on a 30 with junkyard parts for cheap.
Of course, buying everything in kit form ensures you get all the right parts all at once so there is a convenience factor there.

 

Almost triple the cost of the parts for the convenience of it being in a kit.

 

I too have been looking into a disc brake conversion on my 74 cj5. I have been looking into the SSBC kit and have found a lot of negative remarks concerning the kits for not only the front but the rear as well. For the rear kit apparently it comes with the wrong axle seal, the rotor supplied with the kit has an inner diameter that might not fit on factory axles (saw a video where the guy had to have the axles lathed in order to fit the rotors). For the front the kit recommended torque spec was 25 f/lbs heavier than what is recommended for the hubs. The upper bolt for the caliper doesn't clear the upper spindle bolt without some sort of modification. And the supplied brake lines require adapters to be purchased in order to connect them to your existing line. I have done a lot of research in to this and have not been to happy with the quality in the kits that are available. So I recommend being wary about the kit you do buy and research as much as you can prior to buying them to make sure there are no surprises.

 

It would be cheaper to go to the wrecking yard and get them off a dana 30 that has already been in use

 

Remember folks not everyone can get these parts from a wrecking yard...

 

Sure they can with the part finders out there. A little bit of clicking and brown Santa delivers anywhere.

 

And you don't know what rusted junk you are getting until it arrives. After paying for the parts and shipping. Been there done that.
