Hi All. At the point that I’m looking for mufflers for my build. I’m not wanting to spend hundreds for sure. Maybe something like this. Except I need 2.5” inlet. What are others using?

    Something quiet.

Quiet is good. Function and value trump quiet.

I have Hush Thrush turbos on mine, definately cheaper and quieter than your choice above.

Those purple glass packs are known for being quite loud, and they get louder with more use.

I us two muflers on the sides. Then at the rear comming together. It sounds much better than two muflers . Realy heavy sound and impresive. No sidepipes for mee anymore.

I used jones turbo tubes on the boys v6 cut the ends off welded one endto a collector and used a 3 inch turn out on the other. They sound good not too loud till you romp it.

:)Went with this style with my first M38A1 build in ‘72, am slightly deaf in left ear (now a few years later)......... not sure I can attribute it to the exhaust but.......
Every vehicle built since then had exhaust exiting the rear of the vehicle.
Like the Magnaflow muffler - stainless and lots of sizes, but not inexpensive

You can get one turbo muffler (or equivalent - think mine is a magnaflow) for the same price, and spend the savings to make a y-pipe and route to the tail. Or you can run two mufflers with side exits for about the same cost as the purple glass pack you show... Now if you like loud exhaust, no problem, go with it. Its certainly a pretty easy solution to mount those up to some headers.

No!!! Purple Hornies are the worst!

Take FinoCJ's advice. Your ears will thank you, your friends will thank you (for not always smelling like exhaust), and the general public will thank you.

These must be a distant cousin of cherry bombs

Not even a distant cousin! They are essentially Cherry Bombs with header flanges and painted purple instead of red. I think its a "newer generation" thing. They gotta have their thing!

I got my mufflers out of a trash pile, literally. Stainless and I guess they were originally on a mustang. Quiet and pelt of power but not boring sounding either. The price was perfect.

    Thanks for all the replies.
I’m going to use some short mufflers and side dump for now. Cost considerations and ease of completing made the choice. I hope to put rear dump on the jeep as a future project.
Here is what I ordered from Summit along with clamps, hangers and exhaust pipes for right at $100.

You'll be much happier with that setup.

My neighbor up the hill has Purple Hornies on his AMC V8 Jeep, and it rattles our windows as it just coasts by. Going back up, it's just obnoxious.

Those glass packs get old when you want to listen to the radio. Too much of a good thing

I had glass packs for about a month then I swapped them out for some turbo tubes. They look similar to a glass pack but where much quieter with a good throaty sound when you get on it.
