Going to do some jeep transmission and transfer case rebuilding. Looking for recommendations for the right size Arbor Press to do this type of work. I would consider a hydraulic press also if they are suitable. Trying to get the best "press for the buck" I don't see a big future need for the press, I'm 72, so maybe hammering the bearings off and on is a option, if done correctly. THOUGHTS

When I rebuilt my T14 and D18 I did not use a press. A brass drift was useful for driving a few things in and out (such as bearing races)...but I never once felt like I needed a press for anything.

I'm with FinoCJ. I have rebuilt several of both and did not use a press...and I do have a press.

I bought the harbor freight press with a coupon it's pretty cheap. Its useful for many projects.

As a general rule unless you find one at a yard sale, a true arbor press will cost more than the hydraulic press. The 12 ton hydraulic one at harbor freight will do anything on a jeep or similar. You can get them for about $95 with a coupon. There 6 ton bench top would work if theres enough clearance under the ram, not sure 11" will do it. It might though!
