here is the main reason this thing needed rebuilt

[IMG]20210514_161045 by Levi Vaughan, on Flickr

a total lack of lubrication caused the needle bearings to stick between the shaft and gear, causing the shaft to spin, as seen by the wear on the ends of it.

  5. placed an order for small parts at KW today, sc hool gets out next friday so i need to hurry with my sandblasting.

  6. went out to the shop today and cleaned up the parking brake backing plate. overcame my fear of grinders, i now feel comfortable with a 4" one. the 7" still sketches me out a bit. tried to straighten out the crossmember, had some luck, but still needs work.

Never get too comfortable though, those suckers will take off skin as fast as a chainsaw. Lots of PSA threads on this forum over the years.

Wait 'til you catch your shirt in the wire wheel!!!

4" will do best for almost every job.

I have a 7" one that I've used like twice in 20 years, just too big & bulky to be useful for jeep work.

There's no points for "try." There is do, or don't do.

Above all protect your eyes. Replacement spares are unavailable.

  12. yeah, that thing is far too bulky for a lot of things. it is real powerful though, and if something serious needs cut, that's the thing to use.
earmuffs and goggles are always on while grinding. (y)

Speaking (too loudly) as a deaf old coot, earmuffs are good too.

If I could go back and not abuse my hearing, I would. By the time you notice, it is too late.

Lube the o rings on the intermediate shafts when you assemble it it slides in easier and helps prevent tearing them use Vaseline also smear some rtv sealant around the shafts bores to help prevent leaks.

  16. already cut one of them. :banghead: didn't see this uhntil after my first try, now i need to get a new O-ring.

  17. i got a 2/3 rear seat from a mid 2000's GMC Envoy, and ima try to fit it into the jeep.

I absolutly love this intermediate gear set-up.

Can you picture the timken bearing product number. I hold a registerty of almost every custom part i put on the jeep. Back in the day i forgot to write down the product number and advance adapter doesnt want to give my the timken number.
