Companion Flange Doesn’t Fit

Have you guys seen this before? Ordered a new companion flange from KW and it doesn’t fit in the Ebrake drum! The collar area (indicated with the red arrow) is a fraction too large and prevents proper flush mating with the drum.

    Guess I’ll send it back.

Thoughts on a new one, or does a sleeve work on the old one here?

Have a machine shop nearby? Turn the new one down a hair?

Man, I don’t really know. That’s a good idea however. I’m still scratching my head as to why they sold me one that doesn’t fit. Wondering if one from a different vendor would be different.

I’ll look for a machine shop though.

A sleeve would work just fine. Omix ada part?

Yeah, I’m also considering a speedi sleeve, but don’t know much about them. Do they increase the diameter of the shaft enough to affect wear and stress on the seal?

As far as the origin of the part, I got it from Kaiser Willy’s... so I thought it would be excellent. Most of their foreign made parts say so, this one didn’t say. I’ll let you know what they say when I contact them about the faulty flange.

In my experience, the sleeves work just as well as new yokes/flanges. No additional wear. Make sure everything is clean and use a little RTV when installing.

The continuing saga of not so cheap poorly made import parts. I'm pretty sure I have bought my last purchase from KW.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the help!

I guess I thought KW was a good shop. They seem to have everything and don’t have restocking fees. I’ll definitely watch out on future orders.

I’ve found that NOS might cost more but certainly worth it. KW is pretty good most of the time. It just takes time and search. I’m looking forward to coming by to take a ride.

This will sound a little crazy but hear me out. Get some JB Weld mixed up, clean that worn area of the yoke really well, and apply the JB Weld to the score marks. Use a razor blade to clean it off flush and let it cure. Then take really fine grit wet-sanding paper and polish it smooth. If you do it right it probably will not leak again as long as you have it.
