Took off oil pan to install new gasket on timing cover. Found this in my oil pan. Engine bought used so I’ve never had it running. Don’t want to reassemble. It is non metallic. Hoping someone can help.

Looks like it's off of a fuel pump.

    Sorry, guys. I said non-metallic but meant non-magnetic. It’s metal. Off a Hurricane 4-134 for my 55 CJ5

Some fuel pumps have a "saddle" on the arm that slides rather than just the arm rubbing on the cam. The flat part would be part of the sliding piece and the saddle of course on the cam.

The fuel pump on the engine has the actuated arm. This one doesn’t look like the old pump or the new one.

Maybe the original pump or a previous replacement had the slide. They've fallen off before and people have asked the same question you have. Let's see if other's have a different answer.

I can’t find anything in the engine that looks to have broken. I’ll button it back up and let you all know if I can get it started. Thank you for your input.

Unless you've already put the pan on you could look at where the fuel pump arm touches the cam and then imagine that little piece being on there between the arm and the cam.

Welcome from Michigan, I have never seen what Glenn and Pete are talking about but have heard of them before. Good Luck.

That’s exactly what it is. The contact shoe on the pump arm follower. It clips on and as you can see falls off too.
