Does anyone puts any type of sealer tape around the edges of the panels that go over the transmission and tunnel? I guess that would reduce noise and fumes. Ideas?

Mine's not stock, but similar design… I used stick-on sound-deadening mat under the entire floor pan and extended it to the edges so it also acts as a seal and squeak preventer. Nearly 5000 miles and no complaints.

Where there was sealant, Jeep used butyl tape.

All body folks use butyl , but watch out......It can be brutal. Very similar to hot bubble gum 'till cured.

I have a whole pack of Moretite I planned to use for the fenders and I ended up using inner tube strips. Thanks to all!

I need to redo mine and have gave thought about narrow strips of inner tube, with some type of cement or glued to the bottom of the tunnel pans…how’s it working out so far?

I have not done it yet, I'm still working on the electrical part and that requires those panels to be removed. I like the idea of some type of sealer, like yours that can be removed and reinstalled without mess which it probably will be caused by the Moretite. Maybe a one side adhesive tape is a better option?

Being they are removable panels. I didn't use anything. I'm confused why something is needed between them. Air/ water/ noise? Haven't noticed any problems with mine.

I used Neoprene foam about 3/32" thick. Bought at the Art store. No stick um used double sided tape to attach it to the cover side of the joint and it allows removal and replacement of the cover with no hassles.

Water will come through between the panels. Squeaks and rattles prevented. Prevents any exhaust gas entering if the exhaust system leaks. My state requires no holes in the floor to pass annual inspection.

Hardware store window sealer. I also wanted the possibility of latter removal, since I am always working on the latest issue! Not the best but it does the job.

That will work too. I usually use a product similar to Moretite. It really isn't very messy like butyl calk.

My experince with foam strips like that is that they do not age well.

I’m with Scott on this. Mine has no sealant. There’s lots of bolts holding it down in the stock configuration. I’m sure it’s not waterproof but it does seal well.
