Transmission And Transfer Case Mounting

    The next step in leak fest is the transmission. Like the signature says I am 225 V6, T14, single lever D18. When I pull this for seals I want to replace the mounts (already did the engine). In it only has a transmission mount, no torque mount on the transfer case right now. Waulk's states that what they sell for a torque mount is only for 2 lever cases. Should mine have/came with a torque mount? If so, is it the same across the board? Thanks

    From the factory, a '71 with a T14 would have an anti-torque mount like this:

    The rubber portion of the mount is actually a Jeep 4 cylinder engine mount. The Jeep engineers decided an existing part would work for the job.

    You can get the rubber mount new and you might try posting a WTB ad in the Classifieds section of the forum for the bracket.

    OK, not what I was expecting. I can make the bracket, looks like 5/16"?

    I would need to measure to be sure, but I'm pretty sure it's 5/16". You can't tell from the picture, but it's angles slightly forward, so it's not a pure 90 degree bend on the end.

    Of course you could make it straight and drill new holes in the frame to match the resulting mount location.

    Thanks, I need to double check, some of that might be there. I ran fuel lines through that area but that was in March. I am thinking the motor mount is there. I was not sure why it was but now I know. I have a welder so I can build the bracket. This forum saves me from buying the wrong parts again!!

    Anyone know why Jeep used this Rube Goldberg mount setup?

    It seems like it must be for one of the following reasons:
    • Trying to get a softer mount so the odd-fire V6 doesn't shake the Jeep as much.
    • With the torque of the V6 and the lower 3.1 1st gear of the T-14 (the T-86 was 2.79), they needed a bigger lever arm to keep the motor from twisting too much in the chassis.
