Anyone have a photo of a 1967 jeep CJ5 bed? I am trying to figure out whether screws apparently going to nothing actually have a purpose or can be removed. Thanks.

this is where I have rogue screws. Two in the middle. One in each corner in the bed. One in each corner on the side. Big Phillips heads. There are square nuts welded on the bottom of the bed but nothing that I can see being held down.

sorry, for some reason can’t insert a photo like on the tech forum.

Not entirely sure. It looks "original" to me, but as I peel back layers of the onion, I am finding lots of interesting things. There was a spring latch with 3 bolts that holds the back of the seats down if that helps.

Edit: Re-reading this, I think you are saying they may be original seat mounts. Maybe. They are really close to the read edge of the bed.

Fresbone, I'm not sure if the bed on the Jeep shown in the link I sent earlier is original or a reproduction.

Below is a photo of the rear of the bed of my '67, which is a reproduction (from Classic Industries). I had the body shop that installed it remove the captive nuts from the original bed and re-install them on the new bed in the correct factory locations.

Note that I drilled the holes to accept the rear seat brackets, which were added more recently. They are very close to where the factory locations of those holes would have been located, had my Jeep originally come equipped with the optional rear seat. There's a similar set of holes where the forward rear seat brackets are bolted in that aren't visible in the photo.

The two eyebolts in the center are screwed into the threaded holes there, as are the two large Phillips screws on the sides of the wheel wells. Originally, the rear seat belt ends would have been attached on both the bottom and on the sides by bolts in these four threaded holes. In my installation, I opted to attach all the seat belt straps at the bottom, using the two eyebolts.

Makes a lot of sense. I was wondering if the eyebolts were for tie downs. Thanks.

Here's a photo of my pretty original '69:

This Jeep appears to have never had a rear seat and still has most of the factory plugs in the holes:

In the back row the large phillips head screws are for the rear seat seatbelts. The 6 remaining holes are for the factory rear seat brackets. There are two hole sizes and I'm missing one of the plugs.

In the middle row (at the top of the picture), the outer holes are plugs for seat brackets. The inner ones are carriage bolt body mounts.

    At the front center:

Two bolts for seat belts. The two phillips head screws are original but I don't know what they are for. I used one for a homemade cup holder.

    Behind the passenger seat:

3 bolts are used for the seat hold-down clamp and two more are present but unused.

on my 71 they were for connecting the rear seat belts to.

The big phillips using captive nuts were hooked to my seat belts on several CJ's for both front and rear belts.
