The 225 is a great motor for a small jeep if you have one. A 4.3 is a good alternative. My ln-laws have a cj5 with the 225 and mine was a 134 but got swapped to a 4.3l after some engine troubles. I've also had the opportunity to chase @FinoCJ using a JK in Colorado. Once your jeep is dialed in you will find it lugs up the hills with a badump badump badump.

Or you can do it the loud way with lots of skinny pedal, whichever you prefer. The tapered rear axle will likely be the weak link.

Of course the truck 4-speed swaps are amazing. Like folks have noted, they take quite a bit of planning and work: adaptors, linkage modifications, floor modifications, drive lines, etc, etc. There will be surprises. In the end, it's very worth it. But if you just want to keep the Jeep going for now, maybe staying with the T14 is the right path. You can always plan out a 4-speed swap later on.

What part of California are you in? There's a T14 in Carson City NV: T14 HERE

See my T90 to T18 swap thread...I've detailed a lot of the problems I've had.
