any of you guys made or installed a rear gas tank in a flattie? I'm on the verge of making a stainless 16+ gal tank but I'm wondering if there's an easier option of just buying one for a cj5 or 6? thoughts?

Getting ready to order the 78-86 CJ stuff for 3b. will let you know how it comes out.

I have aftermarket rear tanks on several of my vehicles (though not on my CJ3A). IMHO, you are better off buying and bolting on a pre-engineered tank, than fabbing your own. My own CJ3A has an original flathead engine, and will run (at 50 MPH max) for many hours on a single tank of gas. For longer runs, when I'm off-road, as opposed to being dragged on a trailer or flat-towed, I just carry J-cans. I guess if it's your daily driver, and you don't want to pull a trailer or mount J-cans, It's a valid question.

yeah I'm not thrilled about making one. but i don't want one under the seat since I've been known to smoke a cigar or two while elk/deer hunting and I'd rather not blow up. as for bigger, it's going to be an occasional driver but mostly saved for back country hunting/fishing and wheeling. I just hate to haul a bunch of cans around or drive the dodge back to town to fill them up. I figure a 16-18 gal tank behind the 225 ought to keep me out there a while....

80's postal jeep tank,80's CJ filler,Trooper slide plate(modified) worked great for me. About $75 altogether.

I rolled a 2A with the underseat tank when I was 16 (long ago). The windsheild frame pinned me under it while the under seat tank proceeded to douse me in gasoline. Luckily two of my friends were able to lift the jeep enough for me to get out, and back onto it's wheels before anything explosive happened! A good gas cap probably would have helped.

Great idea I'll start poking into it. I've got a spare filler from a 2A tub. nice top you've got on that 3A. I've got a similar top but I don't have a set of doors for it....
