Thanks. It’s a YJ SOA, but the ends of the frame were cut off and raised up, and the shackles were ran through the frame to give as little lift as possible. Axles were from a ‘75(?) CJ5, wheels are 8x15 Jackmans, and the tires are 33x12.50 Goodyear Wrangler MTs.

Has the tread pattern changed on the Goodyear wrangler mt? Had some on my YJ and they were great tires off and on road.

Yup, I bought mine in ‘04. Back when this was the new pattern. :D The old, old pattern was what you always saw on hummers in the Iraq war.

I bought my CJ about a month ago and have not driven it since the test drive. I replaced the tires, resealed the transfer case, added twin stick, replaced fuel tank and all rubber hoses, built new back bumper and modified the front one. Drove it Tuesday night for a mile or so. Now its going back on the driveway to get Tracker Disc Brakes in front, new shocks all around, and some wiring changes. Loving every minute of it. It was kind of squirelly above 45, thinking of adding a sway bar for on street driving. Looking forward to getting out on the dirt. Towing it to Lake Havasu for Thanksgiving.

Shouldn’t be squirelly at 45. Thats gotta be an alignment issue. My 73 holds straight and true(a little floaty) at 90 mph

I drove it again tonight about 10 miles. Driving with one hand it seemed more stable than the other night with two. Probably just getting used to it. With the 1" lift shackles I inherited on it, I know the Caster is off. I'll measure the toe in tomorrow morning. I would be happy to get it to cruise at 70.

Early CJ5s (through 71) get squirrelly just because of the Ross steering, but you have an intermediate (72-75) that has factory Saginaw steering. If it is loose it needs to be looked at for worn parts or bad alignment. A sway bar would be a band aid, it would not be a fix.

My Ross box steering is nice and tight still. Works great with the stock size tires, no wandering or death wobble. No Squirrels ;)
