No free lunch- if it takes X amount of work to pump gas into the carb it's gonna take X amount of work whether it's applied mechanically or electrically.

    Not on a Model T Ford… gravity feed!:D

The differential is friction. Bearings in an alternator and fuel pump, or direct drag on a fuel pump arm against the cam.

If this engine will be dyno tested, the comparison of HP loss could be easily measured. As mentioned before regarding the duty cycle of the mechanical pump applies to the electric as well. When I ran an electric pump on the f head, it would only pulse every few seconds depending on load. No reason for a g-rotor style pump such as a Holley red or blue on this engine. Doesn't need that much pressure or volume. My guess it will be a toss up, no real advantage for either. Fuel needs to get to the carb somehow and it will cost HP. Model T style gravity feed would be the only option for no loss fuel delivery.

Without a real way to measure that friction, or measure the losses inherent in a belt driven alternator & pure resistive losses we can't definitively state one way or another what the actual efficiencies are.

That being said I don't think the friction pump lever riding on the eccentric is gonna take anywhere's near 3 HP, that's like 2200 watts of pure heat- applied on the arm contact point for any length of time would end up melting it :(

Did this build ever get finished, or did I see that the Jeep got sold?

I think the original thread and it's author ran away. Never saw any results from his work and the thread died. Mark has started a new thread for his own project, I think.

I hope he is able to see his through. I am curious about the results of his work. I wish the first guy would have followed through.

I really wanted to see what kind of numbers he would get.

And its anti theft gas valve in the cab is a plus too, lol.

I work on my Willys every day if even for an hour. I'm estimating road worthy some time early spring. I have alreafy talked to a local performance shop with a chassis dyno. And will be doing some fine tuning on it. At $185.00 an hour for dyno and tech time. I doubt I will do more then what I can get done in an hour to hour half. But that should get me some good numbers.
Dad bought this jeep in 1962 and it was a big part of my growing up. Heck I even drove it in High School for 3 years. Nothing short of death will keep me from finishing it.

Well in any case, this should be a nice running engine. Kind of maximizing the efficiency as much as possible.

So is this the legendary F134 dyno slip thread?

I may be stepping into one of these dyno-build F heads. A while back, I picked up a race engine, or what was left after a wrist pin pulled out of the piston at 6300 rpm, taking out the crank and block. Still a lot of neat parts, including the cam with only two races on it. These race guys claim the F head can make 150+ hp (at near 7000 rpm).
Well, a friend called me yesterday and offered me his race Jeep after hurricane Irma broke off his 4" pvc intake system, letting rainwater into the engine. At least this one was running/driving back in late August. This is another F head with a big cam, side-fed head, roller rockers, decked block, etc. It might even still have the 5' tall tires that are only 4" wide!
I'll try to post some "before" pictures. This one might really be a "Hurricane" 134!
