I'm looking at making a new dashboard for my CJ2A. I was wondering if anyone has an pictures of ones made of aluminum or steel. Thanks

 

what I did..
3/16 aluminum dash overlay....over original dash (swiss cheesed by POs).
No longer use parking brake handle; that area was cutout of the dash for flatness...is that a word ?
Instrument panel is M38 with stock gauge area cut out of original dash; I can pull the whole panel out to service the gauges and or wiring.
Steering column clamp is still factory type to original dash; eliptical hole cut in aluminum dash to slip over column tube.
W/shield clamp adjustment plates were cut out of original dash; intended to surface mount them om aluminum dash overlay; have never got around to doing that; don't know if I'd like it if I did it; still exploring w/shiled clamp options...w/shield frame strapped to roll cage for now.
not perfect, just what I ended up with.

That looks great! I've thought about doing something similar to my CJ5.

 

Hmmmm, not laying on seat,shifters,gas pedal to work under the dash.....

 

Thanks for posting the pics.Only one seemed to have shown up for some reason. From that photo I can't tell if you ran the aluminum all the way to the top or just below the lip that runs along the top and down the sides of the dash.Not too sure which would look better. Thanks

 

heres what i did on my cj-5.I know thjis is the flatty section,so if you want more info PM ME.

 

it runs to the outer edge all the way around

I needed a real defroster and also wanted a glove box for some lockable storage. Instrument pannel can be pulled from the front to get to ECM and the rest of the wiring. 16 gage aluminum base with dense ensolite/vinyl covering and gerrymandered 1/8" steel structural member across the bottom supporting column and hanging pedals.

The dash is structural so an overlay makes more sense. I completely removed a hacked up one by drilling out all of the spot welds and welding in a new (to me) dash that I bought from a member of the CJ2A forum. By the time I drilled out all of the welds I had to replace most of the cowl flange.

 

Flatness is a word. It is a type of inspection which determines the bumpiness of a concrete floor slab. Its important for buildings in which wheeled machines and people are using. One of the inspections my company specializes in.

I agree. His whole jeep is excellent so when he goes wheeling he has to bring security along in case he breaks down. :twisted: I saw what was left of a stalled jeep left over night in the mountains. Not good.

 

Fortunately, I live/wheel in an area where that's not much of a problem yet. All 3 of my Jeeps have been parked at trailheads and/or in the woods for week periods while we have the backpacks on and so far-knocks on wood-nothing has been molested. I don't leave the B at trailheads but after a few miles of real Jeep trail that thin out the riffraff and almost all of the pickups, I don't get too concerned parking it. Not to say I don't employ a few measures to increase the chances of it still being there and at least sort of together when we get back.
