Tj40

Well i guess its time to start a build thread. I sold my CJ5 a few years back. i rolled it twice in Moab, cracked my frame in Texas and damaged the 4.2 doing sand drags. got a little burned out on it and wanted a new platform to start off with... like my pal Lynn, i ended up being a quitter. I have been driving my 97 TJ as a DD since i sold my CJ5 and once i got to AK, i stumbled across a wrecked 2003 TJ, 4.0/NV3550 with 36k mi.

the plan for the 2003 TJ

D44/8.8 5.13's and detroits
2" lift coils with 37"s
high line tube fenders
the normal winch/sliders/bumpers/roll cage
keep the 4.0/Nv3550 and run a NP231/D300 doubler
on board air and other normal goodies
Short arm currie adjustable uppers and lowers

for now i will keep the WB stock, once i have it on the road and kinks worked out i plan on making mid-arms and stretching the front 3-4" and the rear 3-4". i may triangulate the rear then as well.

I have always loved FJ40's along with my Jeeps... i have some FJ40 stuff laying around and want to work some parts in the build ....hence the name TJ40

as it sits now, 4" springs, busted NP231, front/drivers uppers and lowers toast, driver side fender toast, grill i can salvage, hood i can salvage.

My '97 TJ get'n on up there in age..... 200k mi.



was gonna get the motor n tranny out of this but ended up buying the whole jeep instead. 2003 and has under 40k mi. PO pulled his bolt on stuff off of it and i got it for a pretty good deal.

 

Ford D44 for the front and Exploder 8.8 w/discs for the rear.

 

Got my hands one some adjustable short arms fo free... so gonna run'em for now.

here's the 231/300 doubler i got my hands on. went through/rebuilt both cases.








not very good at alot of things but i am a pro at breaking ****... here's the rear output housing





the D300 rebuild kit came in... AA didnt send stickers, i am appalled.

here's the doubler finished (minus shifters).

 

D30/front suspension pulled and had the D44 prepped for brackets and test fitting. welded up the D44 diff breather and moved it so it fit with the truss.

I think I remember seeing that Jeep on jeepforum awhile back... nice score! It'll be fun to see your project progress!

ya i thinkg the PO posts over there. he immediately bought another TJ

 

using a CJ7 grill.

most of last weekend was spent on sticker placement, but got a thing or two done










JB Fab shifters came in, great product, great customer service, **** for stickers/swag, vendor scored 8 out of 10 on the swag scale.

mocked up the radiator, it now has a home. had to adjust the hood from the previous position, it clears evey thing. later i will put an aux fan between the radiator and grill.
