In taking a close look at my PVC connections, I realized that the hoses are not connected properly (not that I know what is proper). A hose goes from the valve cover to a junction box on the intake manifold, and then goes towards the air cleaner (oil bath), but does not actually connect - it is simply plugged up with a screw.

    A few questions:

    1) What affects will this have? Is this something I need to remedy immediately, or can I let this go?
    2) Any idea where this hose should attach (I hope I have given enough info). I have a manual, but I was not able to determine from the diagrams or the text how to plumb this.

    Thanks, John

you might want to add which motor you have, this will help us give you the correct direction to take.

The two F head's I have both have different set ups. one has a breather on the rocker arm cover. and the pvc valve connects to that by a rubber hose, and it goes into the intake manifold below the carb.

and the other the pvc valve is on the driver side of the engine above the carb and has a hard line that runs to the intake manifold below the carb.

there is also a rubber hose that hooks the oil fill tube to the oil bath air filter.

This is how mine looks: Eric Lawson describes this system (seen here in the Hurricane engine illustration from the 62-17 brochure): "The line going to the fitting in the intake manifold under the carburetor is the vacuum source. This is usually a steel line. You should have a PCV valve on the side of the T that connects to a bell shaped fitting on the side valve cover of the engine. The remaining side of the T goes to the outlet fitting on the vacuum part of the fuel pump. From http://www.film.queensu.ca/cj3b/Tech/PCV.html and a picture there shows it clearly.
